I have bobs and they winter fine with the snow and all.
I have eggs in the hatcher now that are jumbo Coturnix.
After reading that they migrate to Africa in nature for the winter I started wondering... Do they winter well outside or do they need to be housed over winter? The weather here gets to -20 occasionally and usually has 30 inch of snow over the winter season. normal lows are 0 to 12f for a couple months. I'm on the 42 parallel approximately.

I housed all my coturnix quail outside, they managed just fine in the winter weather.

Mobe,
I'm going to find out first hand this winter just how hardy they are. We get down to -30F, and don't get above 0F for months at a time. My understanding is that if you can block off drafts and let them acclimate to the cold as the seasons change, they should be fine. You may have a harder time keeping their water from freezing. But be prepared with a heat lamp if it looks like they need a little warmth. Smile

Good luck AK. The water here does freeze without a heater for it. I had one under my waterer for the BW's last winter, but when it got to -25 it didn't keep it thawed. It was one of those light bulb ran things and condensation blew the bulb over and over. I have to rig something different this year.
I they can't have drafts then outside is definitely out. 20 mph winds many times during the winter.
